Discover your community on campus by registering for the Indigenous Scholars Orientation (ISO), a FREE two-and-a-half-day early move-in program administered by the Native American House. ISO is open to self-identifying Native and Indigenous students new to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Program Eligibility

Undergraduate and graduate Indigenous scholars, including transfer and commuter students.

Program Objectives

ISO prepares undergraduate and graduate Indigenous scholars to be academically successful by:

  • Encouraging Indigenous academic identity development
  • Promoting key campus resources and services
  • Exploring how to navigate a new environment
  • Building connections with students, staff, and faculty

Dates: August 20-22, 2024
 

Tentative Schedule

Tuesday, August 20

8 a.m. to Noon: Residential Hall Move-in

 

1:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Connecting You With the Circle that Surrounds You

  • Become acquainted with Native American House staff and programs and meet representatives from American Indian Studies, the Center for Indigenous Science, and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Office.

 

5 to 6 p.m.: Catered Dinner

  • ISO participants will enjoy a complimentary dinner with members of the campus community at the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures (600 S. Gregory Street, Urbana).

Wednesday, August 21

9 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Becoming #IllinoisReady

  • Day-long programming involving informative and fun events designed to help you prepare for a successful start at Illinois. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including snacks, are provided. More information to come!

Thursday, August 22

9 a.m. to 6 p.m.: C³ Program

  • C³ (C-Cubed) comprises day-long programming involving three student communities served by the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, La Casa Cultural Latina, and the Native American House. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including snacks, are provided. More information to come!
